Kamikochi National Park will be closed from November 16th onward. The park closes each year from mid-November to mid-April. Bus services to Kamikochi are scheduled to begin again on April 17, 2026.
End of the Season
With the beautiful autumn foliage on full display, this is a wonderful time of year to visit Kamikochi. Make sure to visit before November 16th! Please be aware that many of the accommodations in the park close for the season in the first week of November.
While it is possible to visit Kamikochi in the winter, it requires planning and experience. There is no bus service to the park and all amenities are closed. There is extra danger due to the cold and risk of avalanches. It is really only recommended for experienced outdoors people accompanied by a local guide.
Winter Activities near Matsumoto
There are many winter activities to enjoy in the area. Skiing and snowboarding in the Northern Alps is very popular with both locals and visitors. Snowshoeing, sledding and cross-country skiing options can also be found.
Matsumoto Castle is always beautiful but is especially stunning in the winter against the backdrop of the snow-capped Northern Alps. Relaxing in a hot spring is another popular winter activity. Asama Onsen is right in Matsumoto City and is a great option for those who just want to warm up and unwind.
