Our samurai tour begins with a visit to this iconic stronghold, giving you time to explore its elegant design and historic significance before stepping into the role of an apprentice samurai yourself.

Upon arriving at Matsumoto’s historic castle, your guide will point out details you might otherwise overlook, the small features that reveal layers of the castle’s storied past. One floor displays a collection of weapons, offering a tangible glimpse into the city’s feudal history.

From there, you’ll ascend to the castle’s hidden “secret” level, a cleverly designed feature that once served as a defensive tactic. Reaching the top requires a bit of maneuvering, but the view, and the final hidden surprise, make it well worth the effort. Your guide will share the stories that bring this iconic landmark to life.

 

Samurai Sword Fighting Class

After visiting the castle, you’ll step into the world of the samurai with an immersive experience. First, you’ll be outfitted in a hakama (traditional samurai pants) and your choice of top, classic black-and-gray look or opt for something more vibrant with bold patterns and colors. This costume sets the stage, helping you step into the mindset of an apprentice samurai.

Then it’s time to take up your katana and start training. Your instructor, known for their fluid and precise movements, will demonstrate the core techniques of sword handling.
