After exploring the charming city centre and both the interior and exterior of Matsumoto Castle, why not venture beyond the urban limits and discover the scenic outskirts of Matsumoto on an electric bike (e-bike) tour led by one of our enthusiastic local guides?
Let’s start from the beginning!
Your journey begins at Matsumoto Station, where you’ll meet your guide and pick up your e-bike. The rules are simple: stay alert for changes in direction, be mindful of traffic and pedestrians, and most importantly, take in the stunning scenery unfolding around you.

A visit between riding and sightseeing
Your first stop is Fukashi Shrine, where the vividly coloured roof of the chōzuya, the purification basin, immediately draws the eye. This is where visitors traditionally wash their hands before entering the sacred space. During this stop, your guide will explain the key differences between a shrine and a temple, offering helpful clues to spot them at a glance. You'll get the chance to put your new knowledge to the test as the tour continues.

Countryside, Local Farms, Hot Spring Village and more!
Leaving the city behind, you'll ride along quiet roads toward the outskirts of Matsumoto. From here, enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and the cityscape nestled at their base. Your route includes a visit to a peaceful temple that houses the Shinto tomb of a former Matsumoto lord. From there, you’ll continue on to Asama Onsen, a historic hot spring resort once reserved for local nobility. One of the highlights is an unexpected discovery: a strawberry farm that uses hot spring water to grow its fruit. Your guide will also share the story of the Taimatsu Matsuri, an annual “fire festival” held every second Saturday of October in Asama Onsen.

The best for the end
Before wrapping up your e-bike tour, you’ll stop at Joyama Park, where panoramic views stretch across Matsumoto and toward the northern Azumino region. It’s the perfect final photo opportunity. From there, your guide will lead you back to the station to conclude the tour.

Note : While Matsumoto has self-service e-bike stations, these often don’t accept foreign debit cards or email addresses for registration. Additionally, there are very few rental options available downtown. This guided tour is one of the most convenient—and enjoyable—ways to explore Matsumoto by bike.
